Harajuku - Meiji Jingu Wedding

the wedding party
guests
the bride and groom
Meiji Jingu is a huge shrine. At New Years it gets over 1 million visitors. When we went at the beginning of Novemeber we were lucky to catch a wedding party on the grounds. All of the members of the party assemble like a choir for a large group picture. Then the bride and groom walk around the grounds with photographer in tow taking a million pics.

Harajuku - goths

Harajuku is the fashion district. On weekends kids get dressed up ala Marilyn Manson. This is very weird in Japan ... fashionable office lady or men wearing blue suit, white shirt, bland tie and Rolex is the national uniform.

Interesting ! Wed 26-Nov-2003 06:10

Askakusa shops

The road to the shrine is packed with souvenir shops - everything from tacky knick-knacks, to Japanese kitsch, to sembei (traditional rice crackers), to manju (sweet bean paste inside a thin cake-like shell).

Full colored !! Tue 25-Nov-2003 06:04

Asakusa is an older area of Tokyo with lots of traditional shops and an old shrine. It is quite busy on weekends as you can see from the photo.

The food! The food was delicious!
