Mikoshi are portable shrines that Japanese carry around at festivals.

Festival Clothes

men in yukata
girls in yukata
or lack of clothes...
Per Rick's request... here are some pics of people in festival clothing. All of these are different variations of yukata. The men's obi is very thin and is quite easy to tie. The women's obi is wide and is about twice as long as one is tall... it is wrapped tightly around the waist and made into a bow in the back.

Haven't seen that ad before....cool. Personally I like the Dakara cherubs wearing sun glasses and spouting water....have you seen those? Justin Tue 5-Aug-2003 10:20

flowers at garden in New Otani Hotel, Tokyo
Koi in pond at New Otani Hotel, Tokyo
waterfall at New Otani Hotel, Tokyo
I went here for champagne brunch for a friend's sayonnara party... (brunch being in one of the restaurants and not the garden itself). The garden was lovely. Planning on going back with my husband for our anniversary.

Really liked the waterfalls shot. Sat 2-Aug-2003 19:33

The picture part

Hydrangea
My blog doesn't support photos, and I'm too cheap to actually pay for the upgrade, so I have a blog and a photoblog now Figure it won't be that difficult for ppl to click on a link to see pics (and be routed here). So hopefully I can be proactive with putting up interesting pics every once and a while.

The hydrangea's were good this year in Japan. I took a couple myself

Wow Liz,
What a cool idea. Now that I am in Frankfurt, Germany I can still stay connected to Tokes via your photos. Loved your very arty laundry hanger shots. Miss you lots, Shar

Yes, I second Elan's thought. I am now a regular fotojournaler with Fotopages. So much easier! Sun 14-Dec-2003 04:10
